Presentation<\/h2>\n

Ethiopia is a federal republic based on the principles enshrined in the Constitution adopted in 1994, which establishes a bicameral parliamentary system. Executive, legislative and judicial powers are recognised at both the federal and regional level.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ethnicity is a key aspect of the 1994 Constitution, which even established the right to secede. The Federal Republic of Ethiopia consists of nine federal states based on ethnic groups.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ethiopia\u2019s foreign policy is shaped by three key domestic issues: the search for regional stability, the country\u2019s economic development, and the Nile as a factor for development.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ethiopia is one of the African countries to see greatest annual growth in the last ten years. The country\u2019s economic growth is currently guided by the Growth and Transformation Plan, launched in 2010, which focuses on strengthening agriculture, achieving universal electricity access, developing major road and rail links, and promoting industrialisation based on export-oriented and import-substituting industries.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>In this session, H.E. Mr <\/span><\/strong>Miguel \u00c1ngel Fern\u00e1ndez-Palacios Mart\u00ednez<\/span>, Ambassador of Spain in Addis Ababa, <\/span><\/strong>will offer an overview of the current economic, political and social situation in the country and of its trade and diplomatic relations with Spain.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
