  CIS International Affairs, University of Barcelona and ASIES, INALCO-University of Sorbonne Paris Cit\u00e9 and Asia Centre, in collaboration with the Obra Social “la Caixa”, the &nbsp ; Foundation Confucius Institute of Barcelona, \u200b\u200bGIS-R\u00e9seau Asie and CNRS , organized the seminar   “New Initiatives Financial and Investment in BRICS: Economic Implications and Geopolitics”<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

During 2015 we have seen the emergence of new financial institutions and investment mechanisms promoted by the BRICS (AIIB and NDB), where China and India play a central role. Currently, China is actively promoting a great investment vehicle in Central Asia, in Southeast Asia and Central and Eastern Europe through the “One Belt One Road” initiative. These initiatives show how the two Asian giants are willing to negotiate a turn in their economic development strategies that will potentially have economic and geopolitical consequences internationally.<\/p>\n

Are we going into a new era of competition between these institutions supported by the BRICS and the Bretton Woods institutions or parallel financing institutions such as the Asian Development Bank? \u00bfPromote such institutions new rules for lending to developing countries? How to evaluate BRICS political risk of the long list of countries eligible to receive such loans? Are we facing a new Marshall Plan for Asia, and what impact it could have on the beneficiary countries? How the EU positions itself to these initiatives? Are EU companies to benefit from this total investment, or be used primarily by the BRICS as a tool to enlarge its dominance in the region will be able?<\/p>\n

This seminar will bring together international experts in China, India, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and Europe to discuss these issues for three half-day sessions.<\/p>\n
