Located in South Asia, Bangladesh’s primary economic activity is agriculture, thanks to the fertile soil of the Ganges Delta. However, it is also subject to annual flooding, caused by monsoons and cyclones. These hardships hinder its economy and, thus, its development, making it unattractive for investor countries.
At this session, we will talk about the country with H.E. Mr Luis Tejada Chacón, Ambassador of Spain in Bangladesh since 2011. Ambassador Tejada holds a degree in law and, since beginning his diplomatic career, has also been stationed at Spanish diplomatic missions in Gabon and Syria.
Despite some partial successes in certain areas, Bangladesh remains one of the world’s poorest countries. One of the main problems is its huge trade deficit, with the value of the country’s imports doubling that of its exports.
In this session, Ambassador Tejada will explain current Spanish-Bangladeshi trade relations, offering participants the opportunity to discuss and reflect on the current economic situation in Bangladesh, its diplomatic and economic relations with Spain and how they are pursued.
