The Constitution defines France as a presidentialist republic configured in 13 metropolitan regions, 2 overseas regions and 3 unique overseas collectives, with a total of 101 departments (96 metropolitan and 5 overseas). This territorial division is located in a complex hierarchical system of administration in different levels and specialization according to the competences exercised.
Currently, the French Republic is chaired by the Hon. Mr. Emmanuel Macron and governed by a “grand coalition” that combines centrists, conservatives, socialists, among others.
The political relations between both countries are institutionalized through bilateral summits held regularly between the President of the Republic of France and the President of the Government of Spain, and / or between ministers of both governments.
Talking about the economic situation, France is, since 2017, the sixth world economic power. Among its main objectives are fiscal reforms, the reduction of the public deficit, and the increase of investments (especially in technology and innovation sectors).
Diplomatic relations with Spain are of the first order, as a result of their geographical proximity and common membership to numerous international organizations, mainly the European Union. Their relations are especially close on economic issues, cooperation in the fight against terrorism, and so on.
The Hon. Mr. Fernando Carderera Soler, Ambassador of Spain to France, is going to talk about the current situation and the relations of France with Spain, commercially and diplomatically.
