On 28th, 29th and 30th April, the students of the Human Security specialisation of the Master’s Degree in Diplomacy and International Organisations (official qualification of the University of Barcelona) had the opportunity to participate in a tactical exercise at the General Álvarez de Castro Barracks.
During this experience, the students took on the role of United Nations observers in a simulation of an armed conflict between two states. Their mission was to identify possible violations of International Humanitarian Law and document war crimes in a report to the UN Security Council.
This activity was a unique opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the work of military personnel, as well as the complexity of international missions and the importance of coordination in the field. In addition, the students learned first-hand about the operations, values and challenges faced by the army in its work to protect international law.
The CEI would like to sincerely thank Colonel Alejandro Rubiella and the Spanish Army for their generosity and support to our students.
