CEI’s Executive Director, Ms Laura Mas, took part yesterday in the ‘Aula Mediterrània’ programme, organised by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, with the aim of analysing the main challenges facing academic exchange and training in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Specifically, she spoke as a panellist at the round table entitled The Strategic Role of Education in Euro-Mediterranean Studies, where she shared the stage with experts and academic representatives from international institutions, including representatives from the Université Antonine, the University of Barcelona, the IEMed itself, the University of Reading and Casa Árabe.

During the debate, the importance of addressing two key strategic challenges for academic cooperation within the framework of the New Pact for the Mediterranean was highlighted: mobility and education. In this context, participants agreed that the persistent asymmetry between the two shores of the Mediterranean is one of the main obstacles to be overcome.

Likewise, the need to move towards models of co-design and co-creation of university programmes was highlighted, as well as the need to promote innovative approaches that do not depend exclusively on physical mobility, such as virtual programmes. The importance of greater involvement by the institutional system in the development of concrete actions to strengthen regional cooperation was also emphasised.

CEI’s participation in this forum reinforces its commitment to fostering academic dialogue and collaboration in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
