Students from the University-specific master’s degree in sustainability. Environment, society and economy (a program from the University of Barcelona) had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of waste management and the circular economy through a visit to Ecoparc 3 in Sant Adrià de Besòs and the consultancy Símbiosy.
At Ecoparc 3 in Sant Adrià de Besòs, a waste recovery facility dedicated to the integrated treatment of waste from the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB), students gained firsthand insight into waste management processes. During the visit, they learned about the facility’s main functions, whose long-term goal is to eventually become obsolete—thanks to a society committed to responsible and sustainable consumption habits.
On the other hand, the visit to Símbiosy, a consultancy specialized in promoting the sustainable growth of organizations, allowed the group to learn about the phases of industrial symbiosis projects. The students explored the key stages of such projects—from identifying potential opportunities, to measuring impacts and implementing successful pilot initiatives.
