In a globalized and interconnected world, public diplomacy is no longer an exclusive domain of governments: culture, the media, and citizens themselves now play a decisive role in shaping a country’s international image.
With this premise, the debate “Public Diplomacy and International Relations” was held yesterday at Espai Línia in Barcelona, in an event co-organized with Exterior.cat. The session explored how diplomacy is evolving in the current context and the impact of non-state actors, international communication, and soft power on a country’s external projection.

The panel featured CEI’s Director General, Mr. Joaquim Llimona; Director of Casa Asia and CEI Alumni, Mr. José Pintor; and Ms. Clara Roura, CEI candidate for the Diplomatic Service. Each contributed their perspective on topics such as the changing role of diplomats, new public diplomacy tools, the growing involvement of citizens, and the influence of artificial intelligence and technology on diplomatic practice.
It was an enriching debate that enabled attendees, both in person and online, to gain deeper insight into the current challenges of diplomacy and to learn first-hand how CEI incorporates these issues into its training programmes.
