26 Nov 2025

Students of the 45th edition of the European Union Course, organized by the CEI in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, and Hablamos de Europa, undertook a trip to Brussels this Monday and Tuesday, one of the main decision-making centers of the European Union.

Over these two days, they were able to deepen their understanding of how the European institutions work, learn about professional opportunities within the EU framework, and understand Spain’s strategic role in the Union.

The visit began at the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to the European Union, where the Delegate and CEI Alumni, Ester Borràs, welcomed them and highlighted the center’s work as a benchmark in training professionals in international relations. Afterwards, the group went to the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions, where they learned about the work of the Translation Unit, the main policies of these institutions, and the employment opportunities they offer. In the afternoon, they visited the Council of the European Union, delving into its foreign policy and the process of adopting sanctions.

Tuesday’s program began with a visit to the European Parliament, which enabled the students to discover its internal dynamics and Spain’s prominent role in decision-making, including a visit to the hemicycle.

Later, thanks to CEI alumnus and diplomat in the Americas Directorate of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Miguel Ramos, they attended an exclusive session to learn about the EEAS’s internal organization and gain insight into the personal experience of diplomatic life in Brussels.

The trip concluded with a visit to the European Commission, where the students explored the different pathways to professional opportunities and analyzed the impact of Ursula von der Leyen’s re-election as President. The day ended at Spain’s Permanent Representation to the European Union (REPER), where they further examined Spain’s role within the EU institutional structure and the various possibilities for internships and professional development.

In short, this tour of the European institutions enabled the students to apply the knowledge acquired during the European Union Course and enjoy a highly enriching experience.
