Metropolis Diploma in Internationalization for Local Authorities

21 Nov 2025

Throughout this week, eight participants from different countries have learned how to use key tools for designing strategies and practical solutions to international challenges, within the framework of the “Metropolis Diploma in Internationalization for Local Authorities” course. They explored successful practices from other participating cities, deepened their understanding of the value of knowledge transfer, and built connections that will help their cities grow.

Combining theoretical content with practical skill-building sessions, the course offered excellent opportunities for networking and peer-to-peer learning, especially through collaborative discussions and hands-on exercises. Participants also took part in several study visits, including to the Barcelona 22@ District, the Sant Pau Modernist Complex, and the Barcelona Tourism Consortium.

Overall, the course aimed to provide a solid foundation for building, updating, and strengthening the participants’ knowledge and capacities in international action for local authorities.

Additionally, the program was organized by Metropolis — the World Association of Major Metropolises — together with the Barcelona City Council, and hosted at CEI International Affairs.
